Asia Society to Host NEW SOUNDS FROM IRAN Concert, 11/16

Asia Society continues its fall series "New Sounds from Iran" with a performance by Kayhan Kalhor, a master of classical Kurdish and Persian music, three time Grammy-Award nominated, and an original member of the Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. The internationally acclaimed virtuoso performs his own compositions on kamancheh (Persian spiked fiddle), including material from his latest CD, I Will Not Stand Alone. Accompanying on the rarely heard santour (hammered dulcimer) is Ali Bahrami Fard, a student of the legendary Ostad Faramarz Payvar and one of his generation's most gifted and masterful santour players. Berklee's Musical Theater Club presents Footloose: The Musical, based on the hit 1984 movie that made Kevin Bacon a star and featured chart-topping songs including "Let's Hear it for the Boy," "Almost Paradise," "Holding Out for a Hero," and the title track. The Musical Theater Club is presenting the stage adaptation of Footloose for the first time, having also staged successful productions of Hairspray and Rent in recent years. (more...)
Broadway's Bianca Marroquin Named Honorary Chair of R.Evolution Latina's First Dance-a-Thon

R.Evolucion Latina -RL- has created Dance-A-Thon 2013, a fun and exciting event that will unite the community and continue this year's focus of cultural exchange through the arts. More than 250 participants from all ages and levels will be dancing different rhythms from Latin America and the Caribbean for five straight hours at the Baruch College Sports Center, 55 Lexington Ave, New York, New York. Florida Grand Opera (FGO) will kick-off its 73rd continuous season of grand opera this 2013-2014 season with the Southeast American premiere of Broward-based composer Marvin David Levy's Mourning Becomes Electra. Broadway Sacramento to Offer Audio Description at Select Performances

For the first time, due to a program established by California Musical Theatre (CMT), Music Circus and Broadway Sacramento patrons who are blind or visually impaired will be better able to enjoy the musicals they attend at Wells Fargo Pavilion and Community Center Theater, according to Richard Lewis, CMT President & CEO. Select Saturday matinee performances of each Broadway Sacramento and Music Circus production will feature audio description. Patrons with visual impairments will be able to listen to live descriptions of the visual elements of the shows-including sets, costumes and physical action-using ear pieces provided at the theater. Houston Ballet's THE NUTCRACKER to Open 11/9

From November 29 - December 29, 2013, Houston Ballet celebrates the holidays with Ben Stevenson's breathtaking production of The Nutcracker, seen by over 1,000,000 people since its premiere 26 years ago. The beloved ballet tells the story of a little girl named Clara who is given a magical nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve. She encounters the frightful King Rat before embarking on a wondrous journey through the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. Young and old alike will experience the many special effects, including the Christmas tree which "grows" to 40 feet, 200 pounds of "snow" falling during the snow scene, and the firing of cannon onstage. Houston Ballet will give 34 performances of The Nutcracker, to a live orchestra, in the Brown Theater at Wortham Theater Center in downtown Houston.
