Photo Flash: EMOJILAND Premieres Two Additional Songs at Rockwell LA
By: Tyler Peterson
On Monday, October 5, the Festival of New American Musicals presented two more songs from Emojiland: The Musical as part of their Musi-Cal 2015 Finale at Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Angeles.
This new musical tells the original story of emojis living inside a teenager's smartphone, and features a groundbreaking score by Keith Harrison (Million Dollar Quartet, Heathers, American Idol). The book is by Keith and his wife Laura Harrison (Holiday Inn, Ragtime). The showcase featured the songs "Thank Me Now" sung by Michael Thomas Grant (For The Records' Dear John Hughes) as Skull and "Naughty, Naughty" sung by Ashley Argota (Aladdin, ABC Family's The Fosters) as Princess and Chris Yonan (Steppenwolf's Homebody/Kabul) as Monkey. The show had a closed reading at ASCAP in Los Angeles last month, and will undergo workshop development this winter. Casting for the workshop is yet unannounced.
