Seeking:

Dar:
Male, 20s. A rural Pakistani who speaks English with a thick Punjabi accent. Curious but obedient, Dar serves as Nick’s guard during his captivity. As the play progresses, he departs from his role as timid servant to confident, menacing enforcer.

Nick Bright:
White male, late 30s to early 40s. An American banker working in Pakistan, he is smart, resourceful, quick on his feet, with the confidence that comes from leading a mostly frictionless existence. He’s been taken prisoner by Imam Saleem and his men and must negotiate for his own release, remaining fairly collected despite the tense situation. He’s not afraid to stand up for himself but also has moments where he succumbs to fear.

Bashir:
Male, late 20s to early 30s. One of Imam Saleem’s men, a UK-born and raised Pakistani who speaks English perfectly with a working class English brogue. Intense, arrogant and aggressive, with a sizable chip on his shoulder, Bashir is also somewhat insecure about his place in the world. Highly opinionated with a bad temper, he is blunt and forceful, yet has an underlying eagerness that emerges when learning about the markets. He and Nick grow to like and even respect each other over time.

Imam Saleem:
Male, late 40s to 50s. Regal and oozing with charisma, Imam Saleem is the leader of a Pakistani anti-government group that has captured Nick. He is articulate, but speaks with a pronounced Punjabi accent. Imam Saleem is calculated, collected, and indulgent in the control of his men.

WHAT THE BUTLER SAW by Joe Orton
Directed by John Tillinger
1st Rehearsal July 29, 2016
Tech August 19-21, 2016
Previews August 23-26, 2016
Opening August 27, 2016
Closing September 11, 2016

Seeking:

Dr. Prentice
Male, 40s or 50s. A wealthy, established British psychiatrist who is as creative as he is manipulative. Dr. Prentice attempts to seduce Geraldine Barclay, who is interviewing to be his secretary, and subsequently finds himself weaving a web of lies as his wife and others stop by his office. He has a frustrating relationship with his wife, but desperately tries to maintain a suave exterior as his scheme to seduce crashes and burns around him.

Geraldine Barclay
Female, 20s. A young British professional who is applying to be Dr. Prentice’s secretary. Miss Barclay is a respectable, cautious, yet unbelievably gullible young woman whose greatest downfall is her naiveté. Miss Barclay becomes more and more frantic as she watches her simple job interview unravel into a series of character and sanity-threatening events. Must be the same age (in appearance) as her twin, Nick.

Mrs. Prentice
Female, 40s or 50s. British, Dr. Prentice’s wife. Described by her husband as a nymphomaniac, Mrs. Prentice always seems to find herself in the throes of younger men. She and her husband share an affinity for whiskey, a knack for manipulating one another, and seemingly little else. Mrs. Prentice isn’t afraid to play the fool, but she’s far from it. She is provocative, indulgent and witty, with a flair for aiding in her husband’s undoing.

Nicholas Beckett
Male, 20s. An English hotel page who secretly photographs a recent affair he’s had with Mrs. Prentice, using the photographs as a means to get himself a job as Dr. Prentice’s secretary. His candid and amoral nature is what leads him to become a pawn in Dr. Prentice’s follies. Must be the same age (in appearance) as his twin, Geraldine. Brief Nudity.

Dr. Rance
Male, 50s or 60s. A vivacious government official from the Commissioner’s office who has come to inspect Dr. Prentice’s practice. British, Dry and highly professional (in his own eyes,) Dr. Rance is an arrogant man, with a knack for certifying the “insane”. Commanding, yet a bit quirky and most likely certifiable himself, Dr. Rance pumps melodrama through his veins.

Sergeant Match
Male, 40s or early 50s. A plodding British police officer who is called to the scene transpiring at the Prentice practice. He is a by-the-book sort of fellow, although not the brightest Sergeant in London… Sergeant Match quickly finds himself another pawn in the schemes spun by Dr. Prentice and company.
