Breakdown
SOLDIER X follows a young military social worker, Monica, who falls for a returning soldier, Jay, and the subsequent love triangle that occurs when he decides he's in love with his dead comrade's Muslim sister. This play is meant to deal with the impact of war on our returning vets and kids who have lived more of their life at war than they have at peace.

SEEKING;

MONICA:
25, Bi-racial female (Black). She is a fresh-faced military Social Worker at Camp Pendleton. Joined the military to get a college degree using government tuition reimbursement. Slightly fragile with a stubborn streak.

JAY:
23, Black male. A returning veteran (enlisted in Marines at 18). Smart, seductive charmer who uses his good looks and chivalry to hide his probable PTSD. Still mourning the loss of a fallen comrade, but tries not to show it.

AMANI:
22, South Asian-American or Middle Eastern-American female. Innocent and spunky. Raised Muslim but more culturally than in actual practice. In mourning over the death of her brother who died serving in the U.S. Marines.

LORI:
22, White, Latina or East Asian-American female. Laid back, slightly apathetic Southern California girl who works at Point Loma coffee shop. Amani's best friend.

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS LYNN DOWNEY:
23, Black female. Returning female Marine who has been cutting herself. Suspicious of and abused by the system, she is aggressive with a tough-as-nails exterior to bury her trauma.
