Please prepare a short song in the style of the show. 60s Rock/Soul is most appropriate. NO MUSICAL THEATRE REPERTOIRE PLEASE.
Bring sheet music; accompanist provided.
Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

Breakdown
BERT
Male, 30ish, Caucasian. Charismatic, deep and brilliant songwriter. He has a heart condition and needs to make a name for himself with the clock ticking in his ear. Handsome, complicated, Jewish, intelligent, introspective, sexy, soulful, and winning, but can also go to a dark place. Sings extensively throughout the show. Must have a fantastic tenor pop/rock singing voice and be comfortable with falsetto.
ILENE
Female, 20s, Caucasian. Bert’s wife. Smart, tough, ambitious, beautiful, sexy, fierce, doesn’t take crap from anyone, even Bert. When we meet her, she’s a go-go dancer. Already hardened by life. A survivor. Great pop/rock singing voice.
WAZZEL
Male, 60s-70s. Italian American. Wise guy, tough, capable of violence, but funny, warm, street smart, honest, and totally dedicated to Bert’s legacy. He’s been carrying a secret with him for 30 years and needs to get it off his chest. He needs Jessie’s forgiveness.
JESSIE
Female, 30, Caucasian. Bert’s daughter. Lost. Grew up without a father. Looking for any information about her father to help figure out who she is and where she came from. Full of contradictions; insecure, guarded, lonely. A singer-songwriter without her father’s gift. But Bert’s daughter through and through. Smart, loyal, thoughtful, deep. Great pop/rock singing voice.
MOM
Female, 50s-60s, Caucasian. This character is Ilene, 30 years later. Still beautiful, but hardened. Dishonest, over protective, greedy, shrewd, manipulative. A survivor at any cost. Great singing voice.
HOAGY
Male, 20s-30s. African American. Decent, good, loyal, maybe a little naïve, with a glorious voice. Bert’s best friend and muse. Excellent soulful singer.
YOUNG WAZZEL
Male, 20s-30s. Italian American. Bit of a wise guy, tough, capable of violence, but one of the guys, funny, warm, and totally dedicated to Bert. Great pop/rock singing voice.
