OPEN Auditions for Children (Equity and Non-Equity kids)

Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Gallery Players

7 PM – 9 PM 199 14th Street (between 4th and 5th Aves)

(sign-in begins 6:30 pm) Brooklyn, NY

No submissions/appointment necessary; just show up.

Children auditioning for Oliver or Artful Dodger are strongly encouraged to prepare the suggested song. Others may prepare a few lines (16-32 bars) of any song. We prefer to hear songs with accompaniment but will accept a cappella singing. No recorded accompaniment. Children singing with accompaniment should bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.

Bring picture and resume.

Callbacks March 6th.

Rehearsals take place evenings and weekends. *NOTE* there will be rehearsals during the NYC public school Spring recess April 18-27. Please do not audition if child is not available during that period.

While we would prefer to cast boys in the child roles, we are open to considering girls who can legitimately play and sing as boys. Boys whose voices have broken will not be considered.

We would strongly prefer to hear children make an attempt at a simple, light English cockney accent.

The primary parent/care-giver who will be responsible for transporting the child to rehearsal must attend the audition.

Seeking 10 Children

Oliver:

8-13. An orphan with an unusually resilient spirit and positive attitude. He endures many hardships and abuses but somehow never loses a sense of the beauty of life. Innocent and wide-eyed. Strong singer. Suggested song: Where Is Love? (Sections A and B)

Workhouse Boys/Fagin’s Gang:

5 boys to play 8-14 who will double as both workhouse boys and members of Fagin’s gang. Mostly ensemble singing, with some brief solo lines.
