3) a very brief monologue and very brief song. If singing, bring sheet music; Accompanist provided on both days.

Total audition time should be no more than 2 minutes

20s, Caucasian. An ex golden-boy, High School sports star, now damaged by drugs and other experiences. Writing a Magnum Opus. Rarely speaks.

AARON
(ROLE CAST): Male, Caucasian, 30s, Jewish. A once-successful writer, moonlighting as a teacher in a adult extended-learning writing class. Looking for something he is lacking.

JOAN
(ROLE CAST): Female, Caucasian, late 30s. An outsider in Aaron’s writing class, as well as the rest of her immediate world (Levittown). She has something to say, and is in the class to try and say it.

FREIDA
(ROLE CAST): Female, Caucasian, 50s, Jewish--woman with ‘a strong point of view’, the unofficial leader of the pack. Can be a bit of a bully. Mother of two grown sons.

ANNA
(ROLE CAST): Female, Caucasian, 40s/50s. Jewish. Freida’s neighbor, writes about her trip to Italy.

MIDGE
(ROLE CAST): Female, 40s, Caucasian, Jewish. She wanted to take French Cooking, but the class was full, so she ended up in Aaron’s writing class instead. Sweet.

JACK, as cast
(ROLE CAST) 50s, a war-vet. Re-enacts brief portions of his war experience through his writing.

KIRBY
Male 30s. A New Yorker, works for Joyce as an insurance claims investigator. Rumpled, with a sense of danger and sex.

ALINE
Female, 37. Chic, very beautiful, Scandinavian. An ex-model and widow being investigated by the insurance company regarding her husband’s death.

EDVARD
Male, 30. Aline’s brother, Danish, with an accent. Stylish, mercurial--stoned on various medications. Life for him is often a party.

(ROLE CAST): Male, late 40s to early 50s. A famous (but now forgotten) late 19th century theater impresario, known for his acting, directing, writing and inventing. He has designed and is building a theater at the 1893 World’s Fair.

HILLARY
(ROLE CAST): Male, mid-30s. A young electrician who works for Steele MacKaye.

ADELINE/RUTH
(ROLE CAST): Female, early 30s. ADELINE-A turn-of-the-century spitfire. From a wealthy family. Married to Hillary. RUTH-Lou’s wife, bears a striking resemblance to Adeline.
