Breakdown

Karen:
30-40s. Strong female lead, sharp and funny. Karen is a legal machine, constantly driving and controlling. Her heart has been hardened by her past experiences but there is a heart there under it all, passionate and giving. Vocal - soprano mix w/belt and strong low notes

Barry:
35-45. At heart a con man, but a benevolent one. Attractive and charismatic. He has a love for his small town and the people in it. He'll use whatever tools he has to make it work and justify it later. Deep down he is also a romantic. Baritone

Lawrence:
40s to 50s. The owner of eight college degrees, most of them useless. An over-exaggerated sense of importance about himself and his stature in the town, but when all is said and done he is actually shy and insecure. Has been carrying a torch for the same woman for ten years now. high baritone

Marty:
30s. Well meaning, if not the brightest bulb in the bin. He is loyal and true and slightly in awe of Lawrence, his broadcasting partner in crime. tenor

Mary:
late 30s to 40s. The object of Lawrence and Joe Miller's affections. Sweet and staunchly loyal to her man, Lawrence, for whom she's waited a decade but flattered when another one pays her attention. Not leading lady beautiful but a lovable character actress. soprano w/strong belt

Betty Lou: Role is cast.
