BREAKDOWN

EVITA

EVITA: (Female, to play 18-33) She is a beautiful, ambitious and power-seeking woman, who rises to become the spiritual leader of Argentina by the age of 26. She is also a woman of few options, who uses her sexuality to build power. The actor playing this role must be a trained vocalist with strong vocal stamina and excellent control. A legit Mezzo with a clear, strong mix that can belt to a high G and sing to a low E (below middle C). Must be a passionate and strong actor who can move well.

CHE: (Male, to play 18-35) He is dashing, impulsive, jealous, and manipulative. Che is a political activist and the narrator of the show, a radical who isn’t reluctant to ask tough questions and demand answers. An actor/singer that must move very well with a high, rock tenor voice that can sing a low A to high B, falsetto to high F.

PERON: (Male, to play 30-50) An officer in the Argentinean army who rises to become the Argentine President. He is a man who is dignified, charming, and authoritative. A strong actor and singer who can play character/leading man. Vocal bass/baritone to high F.

PERON’S MISTRESS: (Female, to play 16-18) A very beautiful, fragile, vulnerable, innocent young girl who plays Juan Peron’s teenaged Mistress. She is “dismissed” out of Peron’s life by his future wife, Eva. The Mistress ponders the rejection during her song, “Another Suitcase in Another Hall.” She will also appear in the ensemble. Must be able to move well and sing a low A to a high E.

MAGALDI: (Male, to play 30 – 40) A tango singer with whom Eva has her first love affair. A charming loser – never quite made it.. He will also appear in the ensemble. A Latin American “personality” type and feel that needs to be bigger than life, but real at the same time. Sings high tenor High G.

ENSEMBLE: Seeking a broad range of males and females of all ethnicities from late teens to 70s. Excellent singing voices in all ranges. All must understand the Latin temperament even if they don’t fit into the “look.” All shapes and sizes to play everything from Generals to Peasants. A fully featured, versatile ensemble that helps define this world. Movement ability a plus.



CAROUSEL

BILLY BIGELOW: (Male, to play 20-30) The very successful barker for the Mullin Carousel. Billy’s success is based in part on his attractiveness to the young women who visit the Carousel. A bit of a rogue and ladies man, Billy is a tragic figure who is a good person at heart, but who has never learned to deal with anyone, especially those he loves, with anything other than violence. Sings Baritone

JULIE JORDAN: (Female, to ply 20-28) quiet, naive mill worker who falls in love with Billy Bigelow, has an inner strength and maturity in the second act as the mother of fifteen year old Louise, must be a strong singer and strong actor, soprano Db–Gb.

CARRIE PIPPERIDGE: (Female, to play 18-28) lively, funny friend and coworker of Julie Jordan, in love with Enoch Snow, Carrie offers a light-hearted balance to Julie's seriousness, must be a strong singer and strong actor, soprano D–G.

ENOCH SNOW: (Male, to play 22-30) a bumbling, adorably shy fisherman with big plans for the future, a successful and somewhat pompous business owner in the second act, must be a strong singer and strong actor, tenor B-A.

NETTIE FOWLER: (Female, to play 30-56) Julie's older cousin, soft-hearted, hearty coastal woman who owns and runs a seaside business, Nettie is Julie's strength throughout the show, must be a strong singer and actor, mezzo C–G.

JIGGER CRAIGIN: (Male, to play 28-35) The dangerous, menacing seaman friend of Billy's who ultimately leads Billy astray, a con man with a bit of humor and an eye for Carrie Pipperidge, must be a good singer and a strong actor, baritone C-D.

MRS. MULLIN: (Female, to play 40-55) A middle-aged widow and owner of the carousel, jealously in love with Billy, this role may double with the ensemble.

DAVID BASCOMBE: (Male, to play 45-55) The very strict, wealthy owner of the local textile mill where Julie, Carrie and the other girls work, very upper crust New England, Bass Baritone,.

STARKEEPER/DR. SELDON: (Male, to play 50-75) A heavenly figure, Dr. Seldon is the earthy version of the Starkeeper, everyone's best friend, a commanding presence, baritone

LOUISE: (Female, to play 14-20) This is a major dancing role, Louise dances the entire ballet in the second act, a very strong-willed, self-determined young lady.

ENOCH SNOW JR: (Male, to play 14-20) The son of Enoch and Carrie, he appears in the second act, he likes Louise (Julie & Billy's daughter), but thinks she is beneath his station.

ENSEMBLE (Chorus / Ensemble): Males & Females, 18-64 all types and vocal ranges, ensemble members will play townspeople, including: the girls from the mill, seafaring men, policemen, ship captain, principal, etc.



MARY POPPINS

BERT: (Male, to play 30) The narrator of the story, is a good friend to Mary Poppins. An everyman, Bert has many occupations, including hurdy-gurdy player, sidewalk artist and chimney sweep. Bert watches over the children as well as the goings on in Cherry Tree Lane. He has charm, speaks with a Cockney accent and is a song-and-dance man. Vocal range: F#4 to B2

MARY POPPINS: (Female, to play 20-30) Jane and Michael Banks's new nanny. She is extraordinary and strange, neat and tidy, delightfully vain yet particular, and sometimes a little frightening but always exciting. She is practically perfect in every way and always means what she says. A mezzo soprano with strong top notes, she should be able to move well. She can have a more traditional soprano sound, but precision and diction is the key.Vocal range top: C6. Vocal range bottom: Gb3

GEORGE BANKS: (Male, to play 40-50)The father to Jane and Michael Banks, is a banker to the very fiber of his being. Demanding precision and order in his household, he is a pipe-and-slippers man who doesn't have much to do with his children and believes that he had the perfect upbringing by his nanny, the cruel Miss Andrew. His emotional armor, however, conceals a sensitive soul. A baritone, George may speak-sing as necessary.Vocal range top: Eb4. Vocal range bottom: Bb2

WINIFRED BANKS: (Female, to play 30-40) George's wife and Jane and Michael's mother. A former actress, she is loving and distracted homemaker who is busy trying to live up to her husband's desire to obnly associate with the best people as well as be the model wife and mother. She has great warmth and simplicity to her tone. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: A3

MISS LARK: (Female, to play 25-30) The haughty next-door neighbor of the Banks family who treats her dog, Willoughby, as if her were child.

ADMIRAL BOOM (Male, to play 50-60) A retired Royal Navy man and neighbor of the Banks family. A physically large man with a loud and booming voice, he speaks in Navy jargon and has a soft spot for his neighbor, Miss Lark. Can be any vocal range as needed. If Admiral Bloom doubles as the Banks Chairman, he can be a baritone.

MRS. BRILL: (Female, to lay 45-50) The housekeeper and cook for the Banks family. Overworked and harrassed, she's always complaining that the house is understaffed. Her intimidating exterior is a cover for the warmth underneath. Mrs. Brill doesn't have a high opinion of nannies in general and Mary Poppins in particular. She does not have to be a strong singer. Vocal range top: D#5. Vocal range bottom: F#3

ROBERTSON AY: (Male, to play 18-30) The houseboy to the Banks family. Lazy, sleepy and grumbling, he never gets things right and believes himself to be useless. He doesn't do a lot of singing, but his Spoonful solo can be a fun surprise. Vocal range top: G#4. Vocal range bottom: F3

BIRD WOMAN: (Female, to play 50-60) Covered in a patchwork of old shawls, and her pockets are stuffed with bags of crumbs for the birds. She tries to sell her crumbs to passersby, who ignore her as if she doesn't exist. Sings Feed the Birds. There can be a gruff, folksy quality to her voice that relfelcts the hardness of her life. Vocal range top: C5 Vocal range bottom: Gb3
