BREAKDOWN
LEAH, THE FORSAKEN, by Augustin Daly (February 10 – March 12, 2017)
First performed in 1862, a tale of treachery, retribution, and the promise of forgiveness by the Master of Melodrama. In early 18th century Austria, a young Christian falls in love with a Jewish emigrant, fleeing persecution in Hungary, and kept in flight by anti-Semitic settlement laws. Their secret love sabotaged by a vindictive townsman, her lover casts her aside believing her to be false, and receives her curse in return.

LORENZ
Rudolf’s father, and the town magistrate, gentle-hearted but trapped by the traditions and prejudices of his community and its laws. 50-60s.
NATHAN
opportunistic schoolteacher, willing to sacrifice everything (including his Jewish identity) for his self-preservation. 40s – 50s.
FATHER HERMAN
freethinking Catholic priest, torn between his beliefs and the prejudices of his congregation. 50s.
LUDWIG
comic relief, the town doctor and barber, braggart, dedicated to his calling. 50’s/60’s

Kindly, blind Jewish refugee, 50’s+
JACOB
Young earnest farmer in love. 18-25.
