Breakdown

SEEKING THE BELOW FOR BOTH THE DC PRODUCTION AND A NEW YORK CITY STAGED READING FROM NOVEMBER 17TH THROUGH NOVEMBER 22ND (EXACT TIMES/DATES TBD).

TO BE CAST:

Luke
Male, 18-21 to play late teens, Caucasian. An all-American kid. He is a thoughtful and curious kid who has lost his bearings after having gone through a traumatic experience. He is conflicted about his feelings, and he feels like a different person after having returned home. He is trying to find his way in the world. Must be open and emotionally available. THIS ROLE DOES NOT SING--ALL OTHERS DO.

Mom (Eileen)
Female, 45-58, Caucasian. She could be small in stature but she has a dynamo personality. Social, controlling, ever cheerful, a proud Baptist, terrified of the unknown. She is used to having control over her home and the immediate world around her, but her sunny disposition can turn very very dark when she starts to lose that control. Strong expressive Soprano to G with a strong mixy belt as well.

Emily
Female, 35-45, Caucasian. Crunchy, free wheelin’, straight talker, lonely, devout atheist, and entrepreneur. Her openness and free spirited-ness sometimes get her into trouble. She is a good person, but doesn't necessarily have the best reputation in this small town. She misses her daughter, whom she loves but has a volatile relationship with and has pushed away. Strong belt with a gutsy flair, also a quieter, sweeter folk sound.

Michael
Male, 35-45, Caucasian. Charming, scarily smart, boat enthusiast, isolated, natural teacher, has spent way too much time in his head. Michael has at least two personalities that don’t easily coexist--one kind and professorial and the other dark and menacing--he might snap at any second, history buff, terribly lonely. You wouldn’t necessarily know about the darker side of his personality to look at him, but actor must have access to it. High Baritone to F.
