BREAKDOWN

INCIDENT AT HIDDEN TEMPLE is a new mystery by the writer of FILM CHINOIS and is set in China in the 40’s - inspired by real events - using the historic Flying Tigers and presence of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek. The play throws open a window into the critical role played by American pilots in China during WWII and how three Chinese women cross paths, unwittingly, in a mysterious quest..

SEEKING:

WALTER HU

Asian male 20’s - a pilot who is cocksure, smooth, supremely confident, and believe that the world is his oyster. Always opportunistic and game for an adventure, they are not above bending the rules or the truth to get what they want.

AVA CHAO

Asian female 20’s - Thrust into becoming the head of the family by her mother’s death at a young age, Ava is wise beyond her years. She is at once circumspect yet truly desiring to know how things work. Journalism student, intellectually curious, she plays her cards close to the chest.

LUCY CHAO

Asian female 16 – (must be believable as a 16 year-old). Ava’s sister. Lucy sees the world through a rosy and innocent lens. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, many things around her are still new and fascinating.

GEN. CLIFF VAN HOLT

Caucasian male, early to mid 40s- head of the Flying Tigers squadron. General Van Holt is authoritative, kind, and a natural leader of men. A newly-installed three-star general, Van Holt faces the constant need to prove himself and realize his vision for his squadron. Must be believable as a romantic lead, as well as a boss whom everyone respects.

The following roles have been CAST (actors may be considered for possible replacement if any becomes needed)

JING

Asian female 30’s- assistant to General Van Holt. Jing is a no-nonsense woman in world dominated by men, most of whom are not as smart or as cultivated as she is. She is resourceful, focused and smart, and as a result almost indispensable to the General.

BLIND MAN

Asian male 50’s - sees all, especially the smell of money ; / doubles as Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, President of the Republic of China and leader of Chinese Nationalist Party.

Chiang is not only experienced on the battlefields, he is adept at playing the political game.

McCALLISTER

Caucasian male late 20’s /doubles as Victim- civilian aide to Gen Joseph Stilwell, commander of US forces in China. McAllister is a blisteringly sharp operative who knows how to smoothly navigate himself around people of importance. Well-educated and from a good family, he believes he knows what he is doing, without the need to be cocky or disrespectful.
