Seeking
Equity male and female singers and singer/musicians for the ensemble.

Note: the EPA for this show was previously held, but those auditioning here at the ECC will also be considered for principal roles. see breakdown.

Preparation
Prepare a brief song from the Era. If you play an instrument, you can bring it & accompany yourself, but an accompanist will also be provided so bring sheet music.

If you don't have an instrument, but are a musician, audition with a song & indicate your musical skill/instrument on your resume.

1st reh (at MSMT): 5/31. Runs: 6/5-6/21/14

Breakdown

WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTIONS OF RICHIE VALLENS AND THE BIG BOPPER, IT IS THE PRODUCERS' INTENTION THAT EVERY OTHER CHARACTER WOULD PLAY A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT.

Seeking:

THE COMPANY
Singer/Musicians, mostly under 25 years of age. Must be able to sing and have ability to play a multitude of roles and musical instruments. The show will be defined around the talent which is available and cast. Experience and training are not necessary but musical ability is a prerequisite for this show. Will also understudy principal roles below.

APOLLO PERFORMER
Male -African-American with the ability to hold the stage on his own. Key song “Party”. Must have good comic timing and be able to act, and have the ability to play a musical instrument. (Special Chorus Part)

APOLLO PERFORMER
Female of African-American extraction with the ability to hold the stage on her own. Key song “Party”. Must have good comic timing and be able to act. The ability to play a musical instrument is an advantage but not a prerequisite. (Special Chorus Part)


Those auditioning at the ECC will also be considered for the following principal roles:

BUDDY HOLLY
Singer-songwriter and star from Lubbock, Texas. Buddy is intelligent, charismatic, 6ft or over, preferably under 25. Must play guitar, sing and act and have a feel for Rock ‘n’ Roll. Some serious star potential, must have a desire to live as a rock ‘n’ roll superstar every night.

RITCHIE VALENS
Good looking, under 25, Hispanic-American/Latino. Ritchie is an attractive, handsome boy with serious charisma, a dedicated eye for the ladies, and the ability to hold the stage in his own right. His key song is “La Bamba”. Must be able to act and the ability to play a musical instrument an advantage but not prohibitive.

J.P. RICHARDSON – THE BIG BOPPER
A former DJ, he is a Texan with an irrepressible larger-than-life character. 6ft and above, with the ability to command the stage on his own as a single performer. His key song is “Chantilly Lace”. Must be able to act and the ability to play a musical instrument an advantage but not prohibitive.

JOE B MAULDIN
Double Bass player from Lubbock, Texas. Preferably under 25. Serious, square young man with musical ability. Must be able to sing and act.

JERRY ALLISON
Drummer, preferably under 25 from Lubbock, Texas. Good looking, irrepressible cheeky guy with musical ability. Must be able to sing and act.

MARIA ELENA HOLLY
Attractive, under 25, Hispanic-American/ Latina. Classy and well-educated. Must be able to sing and act. The ability to play any instrument would be a huge plus.

HIPOCKETS DUNCAN
Under 40, an exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, Texas, with an air of authority and a keen sense of humor. Must be able to sing and have the ability to play a musical instrument.

NORMAN PETTY
Under 40, a record producer from Clovis, New Mexico, with a businesslike manner and a love of making records. Must be able to sing and have the ability to play a musical instrument.

VI PETTY
Under 40, the wife of Norman with a heart of gold. Vi must be able to sing and act, and have exceptional Rock ‘n’ Roll keyboards ability, with a good sense of humor.
