Equity adult principal dancers (age 18+) for various characters in this two-week staged reading.

Preparation
Everyone should bring character shoes, women should also bring ballet shoes. There will be no singing on this day.

Bring picture and resume, stapled together


EPA will also be held on 4/22 (see separate notice)

*ECC procedures will be used. Sign up sheets will go up at 9:30 on Tue 4/15 at AEA and come down at 5pm on Mon 4/21. The monitor reads the list 1/2 hour prior to each call on 4/22.

Breakdown

PIPER:
Adult to play 16 yrs. old; the youngest sister; a gawkish teenager obsessed with math & science; inquisitive about all things and often a step behind her older sisters; transforms into Princess Bliss, a plastic beauty. Dance intensive. Must be versatile between bright, pop soprano belt (low G to high Gb) and coloratura soprano (head voice to high C). Must also sound natural in middle-register pop melodies a la Taylor Swift.

FAYE:
Adult to play 19 yrs. old; the oldest sister; an intense and jaded poet quick with a sarcastic remark; lives to infuriate her father; quirky and imperfect looking with a rebellious style. Strong mover. Alto (low F# to high Eb). A pop rock voice with edge a la Alanis or Lorde.

CARMELLA:
Adult to play 17; the second sister; emotional, girly; craves the spotlight; easily frightened; overweight, not self-conscious. Strong comedienne. Strong mover. Versatile belter (low F# to high F#). Huge pop voice; comfortable riffing.

HOLLY:
Adult to play 18; the third sister; gruff & masculine; good-natured; bizarre hobbies; deeply connected to animals and nature; messy, butch appearance. Strong comedienne. Strong mover. Husky alto rocker (low F# to high Eb). Must have a powerful low register.

TOBY:
Adult to play teenager; the cobbler; a teenage loner; artistic, offbeat, sensitive. Strong mover. Tenor (low Db to high A; head voice to D). Effortless vocal dexterity.

PRINCE DEVIN:
Adult to play teenager – THINK TEEN HEART THROB - the celebrity prince; cocky, spoiled; extremely good looking. Strong comedic timing. Dance intensive. Pop tenor (low Eb to high Bb; head voice to C). Tons of vocal style a la Usher or Justin Timberlake.

CHAMBERLAIN:
30s-40s; the mastermind who controls the inner workings of the kingdom of Amodorie; brilliant and manipulative; deeply superficial. Strong comedic timing. Huge rock tenor voice a la Meatloaf (low F to high A; head voice to D).

KING:
late 30s-40s; the tightly wound father of the four sisters; ruler of the small, poor kingdom of Docia; crippled by the death of his wife; wildly overprotective; intelligent; deeply loving in his own way; middle aged. Baritone (low A to high E; head voice to F#).

PRINCESS TAFFETA:
30s-40s;THINK EX-BEAUTY QUEEN - teacher and ambassador of Heatherfields: a school for perfect princesses; also a perfect princess herself, having maintained a flawless appearance and blissful demeanor through magical methods over many years; transforms into her true self: a regular, middle-aged woman. Strong comedic timing. Dance intensive. Pretty, bright soprano (low Bb to high F); must also have wild rock belt as the transformed persona.


NOTE: At the Equity Principal Dancer Audition on 4/22, performers will be considered for all the above principal roles and also the following the Ensemble Parts

ENSEMBLE – ALL STRONG DANCER/SINGERS
PERFECT PRINCESSES (6): Students at Heatherfields; beautiful; eternally perky; transform into an array of real, imperfect, unique girls. Dance intensive. Versatile as strong legit singers and belters (one very high belter needed). Note: one strong comedic rock belter is featured (Perfect Princess #1).

ENTOURAGE (3): Prince Devin's masculine entourage. Function as backup dancers, henchmen, and security crew. Dance intensive. Versatile pop singers (one high tenor needed).
