Mrs. Wilkinson
The local ballet teacher who becomes Billy's mentor. Hardened and mouthy, disappointed by all that life has presented her. Her wall is gradually penetrated when she sees promise in Billy. Female, 40-50 yrs old. Range: Gb3 - Bb5.

Billy Elliot
Lost and neglected after his mother died, he stumbles upon a ballet class and develops a passion for dance. To him, dance is a way to free himself from the challenges in his life. He finds himself stuck between appeasing family and chasing his growing passion for dance. Strong ballet, tap, acrobatics. Solid vocal skills preferred; strong acting imperative. Male, 10-13 yrs old. Range: E3 - C5

Dad
Billy's stoic father. A widowed miner struggling with maintaining a household in lieu of the miner’s strike, he is still deeply scarred by the death of his wife. Rejecting Billy's dancing initially, in the course of the story he grows to support his son. Male, 35-45 yrs old. Range: A2 - Eb4

Debbie Wilkinson
The ballet teacher's daughter. Unique and argumentative, dry, clever. Her childhood crush on Billy leads her to constantly discourage him. Craves attention from a distracted and disappointed mother. Female, 9-12 yrs old. Speaking Role, also in all Ballet Girl sequences.

Grandma
Billy's eccentric grandmother. Forgetful and aloof. Had a youthful fancy to become a dancer. Billy is her favorite. Female, 60-75 yrs old. Range: F#3 - F#4

Michael
Billy's best friend. Quirky, funny, courageous. He relishes his secret hobby of dressing in women's clothing. Strong tap and vocal skills; strong actor, comedic ability. Male, 10-13 yrs old. Range: A#3 - B4

Tony
Billy's older brother. Hotheaded and scrappy, disappointed in his increasingly melancholy father. He is passionate about the issues surrounding the miner’s strike, and represents Billy’s biggest obstacle to dance. Male, 18-25 yrs old. Range: D3 - F4

George
A community leader, he runs the local boxing club out of the community center. He is the Union representative for the village. Strong comedic ability. Male, 40 - 50 Range: A2 - Eb4

Older Billy / Scottish Dancer / Dead Granddad
Ballet Dancer, with acting ability. Also dances the role of Grandma’s late husband in Act I. Exceptional dancer, also requires Scottish dialect. Male, late 20s. speaking / dancing role
