Preparation
Prepare EITHER:

1) one monologue; OR

2) a brief musical theatre, pop/rock, or gospel song; OR

3) a brief monologue (approx 1-1/2 min) and 16 bars of a song

(total audition time should be under 2 minutes)

Bring sheet music; acompanist provided.

Please bring 1 copy of picture and résumé, glued or stapled together.

40-55. A wealthy, cultured and dignified French plantation owner with grit and glamour who falls in love with Nellie; Strong baritone; actors with operatic background strongly encouraged.

ENSIGN NELLIE FORBUSH
Mid 20s-40. Optimistic and simple Navy nurse from Little Rock, Arkansas who falls in love with Emile; must have subtle comic timing, strong mezzo.

NGANA
10-12. Sweet and youthful, innocent girl. Asian-American girl.

JEROME
8-10. Playful and energetic boy. Asian-American boy.

BLOODY MARY
35-55. Shrewd Tonkinese/Vietnamese souvenir dealer who is also trying to find her daughter a rich husband; brassy, sexy, charactery; must have great subtle comic timing; strong mezzo.

LIAT
18-25. Heartbreakingly delicate, beautiful & the picture of purity; must move well. Tonkinese/Vietnamese.

LIEUTENANT JOSEPH CABLE
18-30. Young, formal, good-looking officer who falls in love with Liat; must be masculine with a good physique & believable as a member of the Army; soaring Tenor (E3 to G4).

LUTHER BILLIS
30-45. Shlubby, mediocre entrepreneur; friend to all and man with a lust for the ladies; must be funny, masculine & believable as a member of the army; strong baritone.

STEWPOT
25-35. Funny, shlubby character man with a strong tenor singing voice (up to high A); one of the sailors and Luther Billis' cohorts.

PROFESSOR
25-35. Funny character man of the studious type; strong singer; one of the Sailors and Luther Billis' cohorts. Also plays Yeoman Herbert Quale. Flexible voice part.

CAPTAIN GEORGE BRACKETT
40-60. Pompous yet competent officer who hides a heart of gold; strong actor; baritone.

COMMANDER WILLIAM HARBISON
35-50. Officious Navy man; Brackett's second-in-command & right hand man; strong actor; must sing, voice part flexible.

SAILOR
Mid 20s – Mid 40s. Must be believable as member of the army. Strong bari-tenor. Also covers Billis and Stewpot.

Henry
Mid 20s – Mid 40s. Tonkinese/Vietnamese. Also plays a Sailor. Flexible voice part.

LIEUTENANT BUZZ ADAMS
20s-30s. Must be believable as a member of the army. Also plays a Sailor & covers Lt. Cable. Tenor (E3 to G4).

RADIO OPERATOR BOB McCAFFREY
20s-30s. Must be believable as a member of the army. Also plays Shore Patrol Man and a Sailor. Baritone.

World premiere small cast musical featuring the work of Jerry Herman. A resident of Miami, Jerry Herman has graciously granted Asolo Rep permission to produce the first-ever production of a new, fully staged revue of his vast canon of songs. This is still in development; information may change.
