Seeking
Equity actors for consideration for the 2016 - 2017 season and future shows. .

Preparation
Audition period may last no longer than three minutes total. You may do two contrasting monologues; a short song and a monologue or two short songs. Please also bring 2 sets of current photo / resume. A piano accompanist will be present. If using such, please provide sheet music in the correct key.

Breakdown

Arizona Theatre Company: 2016 -2017 Season: King Charles III; Act of God; Fiddler on the Roof; The River Bride, Ring of Fire and a newly commissioned play by Jeffrey Hatcher, Holmes and Watson. First rehearsal of season is August 16, 2016. Closing date of season isMay 28, 2017. Six productions are in the season and each production is presented in both Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona. Normal is a ten week contract for each show: 4 weeks rehearsal and 3 weeks of performance in Tucson and 3 weeks of performance in Phoenix. The 2016 - 2017 season will include contemporary comedy, contemporary drama, two new plays and two musicals.

Seeing males and females in age from their teens through their full range of adult ages and all ethnicities.
All roles in The River Bride and Ring of Fire have been cast. Roles for the uncompleted new play, Holmes and Watson, have not yet been finalized. The role of God in Act of God is not available.

Tevye, the dairyman. likeable, hard-working, pious man who sees the positive side of life. Strong patriarch of 5 daughters. Strong actor who must carry the show and have a good connection with the audience.

Golde, Tevye’s wife. Golde is the real strength behind Tevye. Good comic timing for very funny lines.

Yente, the matchmaker. Middle-aged widow and the village busybody. She is the comedienne of the show.

Lazar Wolf, the butcher. Lazar is the town’s wealthiest citizen & is of a similar age as Tevye. A feisty, comic role.

Tzeitel, the eldest daughter. A strong dramatic actress.

Motel, the tailor. A rather meek & poor. a terrific character role needing a sensitive, nervous but loveable portrayal.

Hodel, the 2nd eldest daughter. Sings a haunting solo as she says goodbye to her father at the train station.

Perchik, the student. Requires an actor capable of showing intensity and an unfailing commitment to his beliefs.

Chava, the 3rd eldest daughter. This role requires a capable dramatic actress who can perform an emotional dance.

Fyedka, a Russian soldier. Has a solo in “To Life” and dances a Russian dance with his fellow soldiers.

Shprintze & Bielke. The two youngest daughters. appear in several scenes with some speaking lines.

The Constable. Russian military official stationed near Anatevka. This is a non-singing role requiring a strong actor.

The Rabbi. Anatevka’s Jewish spiritual leader.

Mendel, the Rabbi’s son. He is uncertain of the presence of Perchik in the village.
Mordcha, the innkeeper. Runs the bar in town and is a friend of Tevye.

Avram, the bookseller. Runs the bookshop in town and keeps the town advised of all of the news in the area.

Grandma Tzeitel. A ghost figure who appears in the Dream Scene. It is a very entertaining & memorable role.

Fruma-Sarah. Also a ghost figure who appears in the Dream Scene requiring a strong singer

Nachum, the town beggar.

Yussel, the town Hatter.

Shandel , the mother of Motel

Sasha & Boris. Fyedka’s Russian friends & fellow soldiers.
