Preparation
Prepare a brief monologue appropriate for the character you are auditioning for.

Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

NOTE: play takes place in 1950s New York City.

Seeking:

Sam Samos:
34; handsome; working class; dreams but doesn’t plan; looks for a gimmick rather than making a rational plan; impulsive.

Mary Elizabeth Brady:
29; very good looking; uses her sexuality to control others; determined; not at all sentimental; calculating; parochial—bound mentally by the Bronx Irish neighborhood she grew up in; has a morose side.

Sonny Green:
mid-30s; black jazz saxophonist; unconventional; a drug addict; is here for the ride. (Ability to play saxophone not required.)

Joe Hanley:
50s; professor of economics at City College; jaded; outwardly a religious Catholic; deals with life through avoidance; an alcoholic. (Role is cast; will see actors as possible replacement).

Willie:
mid-30s; boyhood friend of Sam’s; a gambler and a low-level mobster; very realistic about life; very loyal.

Hooker 1, hooker 2, hit-man:
woman in mid-to-late 20's to play an upper-class hooker, a street-wise hooker, and a hit-man.
