The Stella Adler Studio of Acting is auctioning off a rare opportunity to visit the production set of the groundbreaking Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black, which was just nominated for 12 Emmy Awards and is this year's most nominated comedy series. One lucky winner and a guest will enjoy an hour-long set visit during the filming of Season 3. The estimated value of this set visit is $2,500. This behind-the-bars experience is priceless.

The auction will benefit the studio's all-female actor training programs for prisoners on Rikers Island. The set visit was donated by Orange is the New Black production and Emmy-nominated cast member Kate Mulgrew, who plays Galina "Red" Reznikov on the popular series, and is an alumna and board member of the Stella Adler Studio. The auction ends on Thursday, July 31.

"We are very grateful to board member Kate Mulgrew and Orange is the New Black production for their generous donation," said Tom Oppenheim, Artistic Director of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. "Funds raised from the auction of the set visit will allow us to reach female prisoners at Rikers Island, a population that is severely underserved. To borrow a phrase from a recent article in The New York Times, the Stella Adler Outreach Division will work with these 'invisible women' to make their voices and their stories heard."
"My teacher Stella Adler taught me that theater and art can be used to uplift and ennoble audiences," saidOrange Is the New Black's Kate Mulgrew. "I'm so proud to be involved with the Stella Adler Studio today as it brings Stella's ideals to a new generation as well as to women in Rikers."

Founded on the principle that the purpose of theater is to uplift humanity, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting has a robust outreach division that works to bring arts education to inner-city youth and underserved populations. Through its outreach division, the studio is dedicated to actively addressing today's social injustices, including issues related to incarceration and recidivism. The studio works closely with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to provide actor training to women inmates on Rikers Island. This summer, one of the studio's programs will bring training services to adult women inmates on the island. The month-long intensive will focus on core voice and speech techniques, movement, poetry and monologues and culminate in a presentation of original material for the participants' families.
