Below, check out a clip titled 'The Mystery of the Dry Valley Mummified Seal' from next week's episode of the National Geographic Series CONTINENT 7: ANTARICA. The series airs Tuesdays at 10/9.

In the episode, while in the Dry Valleys of Antarctica, two scientists discover a few hundred-year-old mummified seal that was miraculously found 30 miles away from the ocean. Seals aren't good at navigating, and when there is a storm they get lost and wander until they die.

Due to the extreme dryness and cold, their bodies will slowly dehydrate and shrink, and the dead organic tissue can be preserved for decades or even longer. "The question is how they got here because it's really difficult to get from the ocean into this valley - it's one of these Dry Valley mysteries."
