According to Deadline.com, Maggie Gyllenhaal will star in Sundance Channel's THE HONOURABLE WOMAN, an eight-part miniseries for BBC Worldwide, written and directed by Hugo Blick.

"I couldn't put the scripts down," Gyllenhaal said. "Nessa is such an exciting and intricate character."

The series is a thriller centering on Nessa Stein (Gyllenhaal), who witnesses as a child her father's -- a Zionist arms supplier -- assassination. Stein inherits his company as an adult and uses the opportunity to provide arms to cabling networks between Israel and the West Bank instead. Stein is appointed to the House of Lords for her peace efforts between Israel and Palestine and finds herself at the center of a political controversy.

The series will begin filming in July for a 2014 release on the Sundance Channel and BBC Two.

Gyllenhaal's upcoming projects include White House Down and Frank. Past film credits include: Hysteria, Crazy Heart, The Dark Knight, Stranger Than Fiction, Paris je t'aime, Mona Lisa Smile, 40 Days and 40 Nights, Secretary, Donnie Darko and more. Gyllenhaal has appeared off-Broadway in Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya, and has just been confirmed for MCC Theater's The Village Bike this fall.
