Broadway vet Jonathan Groff will star in HBO's upcoming LGBT-centric series LOOKING, premiering Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at 10:30 PM EST. The series will follow three friends who explore the fun and sometimes overwhelming options available to a new generation of gay men. Frankie J. Alvarez, Murray Bartlett, Russell Tovey, and Scott Bakula also star.

In an interview with Out Magazine published in this week's Huffington Post, the 28-year-old shared that he hopes the series will depict the 'reality of gay sex,' and not 'salaciousness'.

"I hope that our sex scenes are sexy - and I think that they are - but I think even more than that what we're trying to display is a reality of gay sex as opposed to the salaciousness of gay sex," he said. "We're trying just to keep it real-which means humor. Some of our sex scenes are very emotional and very beautiful. Some of our sex scenes are awkward. We're trying to get as close to reality as we possibly can. Hopefully, when people watch it, you'll think, Oh, I've had that exact experience. I know what it feels like to be intimate with someone in that way."

He added, "Sometimes sex scenes in TV shows feel like they're thrown in there, and I think ours are pretty character connected and character-driven."

In the series, Groff will portray a video game designer searching for love via OkCupid. Andrew Haigh directed LOOKING's pilot, with production on the rest of the season currently underway.

Groff's TV credits include Starz's BOSS alongside Kelsey Grammer and appearances on THE GOOD WIFE. His film credits include TAKING WOODSTOCK and THE CONSPIRATOR, as well as the upcoming Disney animated feature FROZEN and David Sedaris' C.O.G.

Groff starred in SPRING AWAKENING, for which he earned a 2007 Tony Award nomination. He has also appeared inBroadway's IN MY LIFE and HAIR, as well as off-Broadway's THE SUBMISSION, THE SINGING FOREST, and PRAYER FOR MY ENEMY.
