Investigation Discovery (ID), America's leading true-crime network, today announced that its original newsmagazine THE REAL STORY WITH MARIA ELENA SALINAS has been renewed for a 10-episode second season. The series follows Univision News anchor and investigative journalist Maria Elena Salinas as she uncovers new evidence, unheard perspectives, and updates to national headline-making crimes to see what the media originally missed. Produced by Scott Sternberg Productions and Lucky 8 TV, season 2 of THE REAL STORY WITH MARIA ELENA SALINAS will premiere in 2018.

"Maria Elena's passionate investigative reporting in THE REAL STORY, which viewers see especially in cases that interest and affect America's vast Latino community, has been an important addition to ID's repertoire of original newsmagazines," said Henry Schleiff, Group President, Investigation Discovery, Destination America and American Heroes Channel. "As Maria Elena looks ahead to the next chapter in her career, we are thrilled that she'll continue to have a home in primetime on ID."

For more than 36 years as an investigative journalist, the Emmy, Peabody, and Edward R. Murrow award winner has learned many things during her prolific career. Perhaps the most important lesson is that there's always more to the story. In THE REAL STORY WITH MARIA ELENA SALINAS, archival footage and recreations complement intimate, emotional one-on-one interviews with those closest to the case - some who audiences will remember from the original reporting and others who are speaking for the first time.

About Maria Elena Salinas One of the most respected and recognized journalists in the United States, Maria Elena Salinas has co-anchored the Univision Network's national newscast, Noticiero Univision, uninterruptedly since 1987, and also co-hosts Univision's weekly primetime newsmagazine Aquí y Ahora. She's a household name for 57 million Hispanics living in the U.S., and millions more in 18 countries where her work is seen. Her interviews with global figures, including every U.S. president since Jimmy Carter, as well as Latin American heads of state, REBEL leaders, and influential NEWSMAKERS have earned her unparalleled respect and trust, while her commitment to the Hispanic community prompted the New York Times to call her "The Voice of Hispanic America." During the course of her distinguished broadcasting career, Salinas has received multiple recognitions, including the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' Lifetime Achievement Award, the Peabody Award, a Gracie Award for Outstanding Anchor, seven Emmy awards, a Walter Cronkite Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award, and the Outstanding Achievement Award in Hispanic Television by Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable magazines.

THE REAL STORY WITH MARIA ELENA SALINAS is produced for Investigation Discovery by Scott Sternberg Productions and Lucky 8 TV. Maria Elena Salinas and Scott Sternberg are executive producers for Scott Sternberg Productions; Greg Henry, Kim Woodard and Jarrett Lambo are executive producers for Lucky 8 TV; and Ron Simon is executive producer for Investigation Discovery. For Investigation Discovery, Sara Kozak is senior vice president of production, Jane Latman is executive vice president of development, Kevin Bennett is general manager, and Henry Schleiff is Group President of Investigation Discovery, Destination America, and American Heroes Channel.
