The HBO DOCUMENTARY FILMS presentation A GIRL IN THE RIVER: THE PRICE OF FORGIVENESS received the Academy Award® in the category of Best Documentary Short at the 88th annual Academy Awards®, presented at the 2016 ceremony of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Feb. 28.

Told through the lens of a love story, A GIRL IN THE RIVER: THE PRICE OF FORGIVENESS examines the tensions between modernism and tradition in Pakistan,following a courageous young woman who lives to tell of her attempted honor killing by her own family.

The groundbreaking documentary debuts MONDAY, MARCH 7 (9:00-9:40 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO, to commemorate International Women's Day (March 8). The film is directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, whose previous credits include HBO's Oscar®-winning "Saving Face," making her the first woman to win two documentary Oscars®.
