According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ari Graynor has signed on to the cast of Jim Carrey's dark comedy I'M DYING UP HERE, heading to Showtime in 2016. The actress joins previously announced castmembers Erik Griffin, Andrew Santino and Stephen Guarino

The hourlong show will follow "L.A.'s celebrated and infamous stand-up comedy scene of the 1970s. The pilot will delve into the inspired and damaged psyches that inhabit the hilarious but complex business of making an audience laugh."

Graynor will take on the role of 'Cassie', described as "an ambitious comedian from Texas who wants to be taken as seriously as her male comic contemporaries. Smart, witty and determined - to the male comics she's one of them, yet club owner Goldie (uncast) isn't convinced she's ready for the big time and challenges her to dig deep to find her identity."

The pilot for the drama, to be directed by Jonathan Levine, is based on William Knoedelseder's nonfiction novel.

Graynor was last seen on TV on the CBS comedy, "Bad Teacher." She appeared in the 2002 inaugural season of Second Stage Theatre Uptown in Hunt Holman's Spanish Girl, as well as Second Stage's Broadway production of Douglas Carter Beane's The Little Dog Laughed, as well as her off-Broadway performance in Paul Weitz's Trust.

Graynor's numerous other theater credits include Woody Allen's Relatively Speaking, David West Reade's The Performers, and her Broadway debut in Donald Margulies' Brooklyn Boy, as well as her off-Broadway performance in Bert V Royal's Dog Sees God.

Her film credits include For A Good Time Call, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, Celeste and Jesse Forever, Holy Rollers, Youth In Revolt, Conviction, Whip It!, An American Crime and her film debut, Mystic River, among others. Graynor's additional television credits include roles on "The Sopranos" and "Fringe."
