The Devil Makes Three recorded a two night, sold out stand at The Mystic Theater in Petaluma this spring. Focusing their performance on long time fan favorites, the recording was turned into the upcoming Stomp and Smash, which Milan Records will release on October 25. The album includes new tracks "This Life" and "They Call That Religion" and was recorded by Kark Derfler known for his work with Tom Waits. The trio will continue to bring their live show coast-to-coast including their first appearance at The Newport Folk Festival and a return to Petaluma for The Petaluma Music Festival. See dates on back.

The Devil Makes Three are songwriter, guitar and vocalist Pete Bernhard, banjo player Cooper McBean and stand-up bassist Lucia Turino. All three members migrated to Santa Cruz via New England. Fellow Vermonters, Bernhard and McBean played in punk influenced bands back home but found a common ground in acoustic, country and bluegrass inspired music. When they met New Hampshire native Turino out west, she taught herself the stand-up bass and a band was born
Since independently releasing their first album in 2002, the self-titled The Devil Makes Three followed by the 2004 self-released offering Longjohn, Boots and a Belt, the band garnered ardent fans the old school way by constantly touring and selling out dates across the country. Propelled by word of mouth without the help of any press, radio or label, the trio started arriving at venues to fans waiting outside for tickets and packed houses.

The Devil Makes Three signed to Milan Records to release Do Wrong Right in 2009. The album introduced them to a larger audience through festival performances at Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. "We like shows where people can dance," says Bernhard, "and it isn't about how great the musicianship is as much as the energy of the crowd and the songs themselves." They also made their live television debut on IFC's Dinner With The Band.

The trio is also hard at work on their fourth studio album with plans to release in 2012.
