GRAMMY® recognized music producer Michael Starita has premiered the track "Rules" featuring Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest & vocalist Trent Park via Billboard today. The song appears on Starita's debut album For The Record, coming out Fall 2017. Listen and share "Rules" here and buy the song here.

Amidst crafting his forthcoming six-track EP (due this fall), Starita asked Rasta Root, Phife Dawg's manager, if Jarobi White would rap on "Rules." Starita tells Billboard: "I was like, you think Jarobi would be down to drop some bars on this thing? So [Root] connected us and that's how it all started." Jarobi White was immediately pulled in by the up-tempo track's melodic changes. "It was a departure from what I'm normally doing," White adds. "I was just hoping I wouldn't mess it up. I just wanted to add my personality, a little New York street feel. I hope I accomplished that."

Known for his work as producer and engineer for groups such as A Tribe Called Quest, Childish Gambino, Michael Franti and others, For the Record speaks to Starita's can-do spirit, which dares to defy odds and break the "rules" of music genres. You hear it in the songs...an eclectic mix of electronic music and acoustic instruments that, he will argue, does not belie his Southern roots but springs directly from them. And you see it in the featured artists on the album, including Jarobi White of A Tribe Called Quest, rapper Mystikal, and Trevor Hall, among others, creating a signature stylistic blend that's hard to categorize.
