Variety reports that Paramount Pictures is already planning a third GI Joe film after the huge international success of GI JOE RETALIATION, which opened this weekend.

According to the report, the film opened to $132 million worldwide, of which $51.7 million came from domestic theaters and $80.3 million from international ones. The film's budget was only $130 million which comes in far lower than the original 'Rise of the Cobra' installment which cost an estimated $175 million.

Worldwide, "Retaliation" could pull in over $400 million, far surpassing "Cobra's" $303 million overall take.

Relatiation stars D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum with Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson and is directed by Jon M. Chu and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Brian Goldner. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penned the screenplay which was based on Hasbro's G.I. Joe characters.

In this sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.
