KILL THE MESSENGER is adapted from the book by Nick Schou, with a script penned by Peter Landesman.

The film follows real-life, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb (Renner), who exposed the CIA's involvement in Nicaragua's Contra rebel cocaine imports into California in the '80s. The CIA attempted to skirt the accusations, and Webb was found shot in the head twice. It was said he "committed suicide".

Close will play an L.A. Times reporter and friend of Webb. The film will begin production in August in Atlanta.

Close just finished filming for Solace opposite Colin Farrell and Anthony Hopkins and will next appear in Deadweight. Close has also appeared on the big screen in In Their Skin, Isolation, The Dead Sleep, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and more. TV credits include The Unusuals, Life As We Know It and Blue Murder.
