Deadline reports that SKYFALL, the latest installment of the James Bond franchise from Sony Pictures, has reached the $1 billion mark at the global box office. The achievement marks the 14th time a film has reached such a milestone. Sony announced the news today in a statement.
SKYFALL currently has currently taken in $289.6 million domestically and $710.6 million internationally. The film is the third picture this year to earn $1 billion globally, after Disney/Marvel's The Avengers ($1.5B) and Warner Bros' The Dark Knight Rises ($1.1B). It is the highest-grossing installment in the Bond series and continues to bring in big numbers. It will soon open in China.
In SKYFALL, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Ben Whishaw, Helen McCrory, Ola Rapace and Tonia Sotiropoulou star in the film, which hit international theaters on October 26, domestic IMAX theaters on November 8, and conventional theaters on November 9.
