SINGIN' IN THE RAIN Celebrates 60th Anniversary with Return to Theaters Today, 7/12
Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor sing and dance their way back onto the big screen in the "Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Presents 'Singin' in the Rain' 60th Anniversary Event" tonight, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. local time, with special matinees in select theaters at 2:00 p.m.
Presented by NCM Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies and Warner Home Video, the event features a pre-recorded TCM original production with an introduction by TCM host Robert Osborne, who will take audiences behind the scenes, including a special interview with "Singin' in the Rain" star Debbie Reynolds. Reynolds will share her thoughts on what it was like working with her co-stars on the set of this classic musical.
Tickets for TCM Presents Singin' in the Rain 60th Anniversary Event are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. The event will be broadcast to more than 475 select movie theaters across the country through NCM's exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. "Singin' in the Rain," set in the days of Hollywood's transition from silent films to "talkies," continues to this day to provide pure cinematic entertainment. It stars Kelly at the pinnacle of his career, with co-stars, O'Connor, Reynolds, Millard Mitchell, Jean Hagen, Cyd Charisse and Rita Moreno. Written by legendary musical "book" writers Betty Comden and Adolph Green, "Singin' in the Rain" was helmed by renowned directors Kelly and Stanley Donen. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards® and is the No. 1 musical on the American Film Institute's (AFI) list of the "25 Greatest Movie Musicals" (2007) and No. 5 on AFI's "100 Years, 100 Movies" list (2007).
