According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp is in talks to star in and produce MORTDECAI, an adaptation of Kyril Bonfiglioli's 1970s book series The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery for Lionsgate. David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Premium Rush) will direct from his own script based on a draft by Eric Aronson.

Depp would play Charles Mortdecai, an art dealer who "must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold."

Depp will next appear in Rob Marshall's Into the Woods film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical, and is filming for Transcendance.

His past film credits include The Lone Ranger, The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, The Rum Diary, Rango, Alice in Wonderland, Public Enemies, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Sweeney Todd, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Finding Neverland, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Chocolat, Sleepy Hollow, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Ed Wood, 21 Jump Street and more.
