Helena Bonham Carter to Receive London Critics Circle's 'Excellence in Film' Award

Deadline reports that Helena Bonham Carter will receive the Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film at the 33rd London Critics Circle Awards, being held on January 20 in London. The film nominations for the London Critics Circle Awards will be announced on December 18.

Upon hearing the news of the honor, the actress commented, "To be chosen for this award is a surprise and an honor. I am delighted! It's always nice when critics say something nice about you for a change, and especially the critics in your hometown."

Among the previous winners of the prestigious award are Dirk Bogarde, Richard Attenborough, Julie Walters, Judi Dench, Nicolas Roeg, Quentin Tarantino and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Bonham Carter will soon be seen in the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of Tom Hoopers's Les Misérables in the role of Mme Thénardier. She is known for her roles in films such as A Room with a View, Fight Club, and playing the villainess Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series. She frequently works with director and domestic partner Tim Burton in films such as Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland, and Dark Shadows. In 2012 she played Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, and Madame Thénardier in Les Misérables.

A two-time Academy Award nominee for her performances in The Wings of the Dove and The King's Speech, Bonham Carter's acting has been further recognised with six Golden Globe nominations, an International Emmy Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
