The movie is being produced by Brian Grazer for Imagine Entertainment and Mick Jagger's Jagged Films, based on a screenplay by Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.

The movie follows Brown's life from his poor childhood to his rocketing fame as "The Godfather of Soul". Brown was able to have some input in the project, as Grazer started work on the pic before the musician's death in 2006.

Boseman's next big screen project is Draft Day. He last starred as Jackie Robinson in 42. Boseman's TV credits include Persons Unknown, Lincoln Heights, and he has recently appeared in episodes of Fringe, Justified, Detroit 1-8-7, Castle and The Glades. Also a screenwriter and playwright, Boseman's works include Hieroglyphic Graffiti, Deep Azure and Rhyme Deferred.
