Raised on the Lower East Side of New York City, surrounded by rabbis, Mason grew to be one of the hottest comics of the 1960’s, but it was during his regular appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show that he reached the apex of American entertainment culture. By the eighties Mason was experiencing major success with his one-man show The World According to Me, which ran for an unprecedented two and a half years on Broadway and earned him a Tony Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, an Ace Award, an Emmy and a Grammy nomination.
