The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up in viewers (+6%, 7.87m from 7.43m) and posted double-digit percentage gains in adults 25-54 (+13%, 1.7/06 from 1.5/05) - the demographic most important to those who advertise in news - compared to the same week last year.

This week marks CBS's best adult 25-54 rating since the week ending Feb. 20, 2015. Additionally, the CBS broadcast gained +440,000 viewers compared to last year and closed the viewership gap with NBC by 480,000 viewers.

Editor's Note: Ratings for the week ending Jan. 1 represent a three-day average (Monday-Wednesday) due to the New Year's holiday. The year-ago comparison represents a two-day average (Monday-Tuesday).

On last week's broadcasts, Jim Axelrod reported on the Justice Department's investigation into Blue Bell Creameries; Mireya Villarreal covered a methane gas leak in a California town; Jericka Duncan reported on the criminal charges brought against Bill Cosby; and Don Dahler and Elizabeth Palmer had the latest on tightened security in the U.S. and Europe on New Year's Eve.
