Audiences across the world will again be able to experience the Sydney Symphony Orchestra like never before in a mass-participation multimedia event on the evening of Earth Hour 2015.

In the inaugural Concert for the Planet, presented by the Global Orchestra Foundation, musicians across the world are invited to play along to the SSO by tuning in to a live web-stream of the Orchestra's performance of Holst's The Planets, conducted by the SSO's Chief Conductor and Artistic Director David Robertson at the Sydney Opera House.

The event will be the culmination of weeks of practice by thousands of musicians who have responded to the invitation - "what part will you play for the planet?" - by learning how to play The Planets on their instruments.

More than 30 GoPros were used to film the players of the SSO performing The Planets, with the footage now available in a suite of digital educational materials via the Global Orchestra Foundation website, to assist participants in learning their part.

David Robertson said the inaugural Concert for the Planet would demonstrate the Orchestra's continued commitment to digital education and accessibility.

"At the SSO we're always looking for innovative ways to allow audiences across Australia and overseas to experience our performances," Mr Robertson said. "We're thrilled to be joining the Global Orchestra Foundation in this multimedia project which will allow audiences and musicians across the world to connect with the SSO and the music in a new and exciting way."
