The Newstead Trio returns to the Ware Center on Thursday, March 19 at 7:30 pm with a program to honor Women's History Month. Celebrating its twentieth season together as one of the most distinguished piano trios in North America, the Newstead Trio's performances are personified by warmth, energy, and depth of expression. Their performance at the Ware Center will be comprised of works by three prominent women composers representing three different centuries, the 19th , 20th and 21st. The Ware Center is located at 42 N. Prince Street in Lancaster City.

The program will include works by Rebecca Clarke (1886-1979), Tina Davidson, and Clara Schumann (1819-1896). Tremble, composed by Tina Davidson for violin, cello and piano, was written for the Astral Foundation and the American Philosophical Society in honor of the composer's late father, Britton Chance. An important scientist and sailor, he continued his research until he died at 97. He never lost his passion for his work, or his reverence for the things yet unknown or seen. The composer comments, "We shiver in delight or quake in fear. We shake in anger or pulse in love. We tremble in the act of knowing and not knowing."

Tina Davidson, most recently commissioned by Grammy Award-winning violinist, Hilary Hahn, is a highly regarded American composer who creates music that stands out for its emotional depth and lyrical dignity. Lauded for her authentic voice, the New York Times praised her "vivid ear for harmony and colors." OperaNews called her works "transfigured beauty." Tina Davidson has been commissioned and performed by well-known ensembles such as National Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, OperaDelaware, VocalEssence, Kronos Quartet, and Cassatt Quartet.

The Newstead Trio made their New York debut at Carnegie Hall, and has been broadcast live on radio and television. They have performed for audiences throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Singapore, and China, including sold out concerts in at Beijing's National Centre for Performing Arts, and at Carnegie Hall in New York. Their innovative and uniquely accessible concert programming combines traditional piano trio literature with more contemporary works that includes several commissioned works by widely respected composers. These presentations are characterized by a dramatic variety that can be enjoyed by diverse audiences worldwide. Of their residency at Dartmouth College, Joe Clifford, Outreach and Arts Education Manager, says, "Michael, Sara and Xun...did wonders to show audiences that chamber music (whether classical or contemporary) is a vivid genre, alive with the human spirit."

The Newstead Trio and has been included on the roster of Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour since its inception in 1996 and was the ensemble in residence at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music for sixteen years. The Trio has also been named Ambassador for the Qinghai Zongheng Culture and Arts Development Company in China and has six commercially released recordings to date.
