Hoff-Barthelson Music School's 2017 Elaine Stamas New York Philharmonic Educational Residency, featuring members of the New York Philharmonic, will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017, at the Music School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale, New York. This program, held annually each spring, is named in honor of Elaine Stamas, who was a long-time supporter of the School's Philharmonic program and member of the Board of Trustees.

About the Afternoon Educational Residency:

Master classes and chamber music have been a foundation of Hoff-Barthelson's educational philosophy since the School was founded in 1944. From their earliest stages of proficiency, students are encouraged to participate in chamber ensembles, an opportunity that provides the unique pleasure of making music with others. Students explore rich chamber music literature under the guidance of Hoff-Barthelson faculty members who are themselves active in New York City's vibrant chamber music scene.

The Educational Residency with the New York Philharmonic, now in its 21st year, gives a dozen HBMS chamber ensembles the opportunity to perform for New York Philharmonic members, who share their comprehensive knowledge of ensemble playing with these young musicians as they guide them to a higher understanding of technique, musicianship and musical style. Four members of the Philharmonic, Lisa E. Kim, violin; Kuan-Chen Lu, violin; Rebecca Young, viola; and Mindy Kaufman, flute, will coach student chamber music ensembles from 3:45 - 5:45 pm.

The public is invited to observe the Educational Residency free of charge.

About the Evening Chamber Music Performance:

The coaches are joined by their New York Philharmonic colleagues in an 8:00 pm recital which includes works by Brahms, Paganini, Busch and Persichetti. Renowned pianist Peter Serkin will settle in with his Philharmonic musical colleagues for the Piano Quintet of Adolf Busch, the pianist's grandfather.

Admission to the recital is $28 general admission; $18 Seniors (65+); and free of charge for students. Program and artists subject to change.
