Five conductors have been selected to participate in the League of American Orchestras' 2016 Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview. On Wednesday, May 11 in Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center, they will lead the GRAMMY Award-winning Nashville Symphony and receive guidance and mentoring from Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero, himself a Preview alum. The League's prestigious showcase spotlights talented conductors poised for music directorships and staff conducting positions at America's orchestras, bringing them to the attention of search committees, orchestra administrators and artist managers.

This year's Preview conductors are:

  • Conner Gray Covington, Rita E. Hauser Conducting Fellow, Curtis Institute of Music
  • Roderick Cox, Assistant Conductor, Minnesota Orchestra
  • Paul Ghun Kim, Resident Conductor, Oregon Symphony
  • Rebecca Miller, Music Director, Royal Tunbridge Wells Choral Society; Director of Orchestras, Royal Holloway University of London; Conductor, Royal Academy of Music Junior Department
  • Stefan Sanders, Montante Family Endowed Associate Conductor, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra; Music Director, Round Rock Symphony (TX); Music Director, Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra

"We're pleased to have the League's Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview back in Nashville, the home of 2001 Preview alum Giancarlo Guerrero, Nashville Symphony's Music Director," commented Jessen Rosen, League of American Orchestras President and CEO. "His personal experience with the Preview makes him an invaluable teacher and mentor to these five talented conductors. The Preview is a wonderful opportunity for conductors to perform with one of America's great orchestras in the renowned Schermerhorn Symphony Center while also helping to meet the orchestra field's need for a pipeline to talented music directors and staff conductors."

The five featured conductors were chosen by an independent panel of leading music professionals from a pool of nearly 150 applications from eighteen countries, and were selected for their experience, talent, leadership potential, and commitment to a career in service to American orchestras.

About the 2016 Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview in Nashville
On May 11, the five featured conductors will lead the Nashville Symphony in an afternoon session for an audience of music director search committee members, artistic administrators and artist managers from League member organizations across the country. Each conductor will rehearse a 20-minute program of contrasting musical selections to be performed in a free public concert at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center that evening. The League also facilitates networking between the conductors and industry professionals as well as feedback and mentorship by Nashville Symphony musicians and Maestro Guerrero. A video recording of the evening performance will be made available for on-demand streaming for 45 days after posting, in order to enable more people in the music industry as well as the general public to experience these exciting conductors in action.

History of the Program
