To acknowledge an extraordinary first decade at the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall, the LA Phil presents insideOUT, a celebration led by Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, and featuring Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen; a free Open House concert with the LA Phil and Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA) to also be simulcast in Grand Park; a series of free community concerts with special guest Julie Andrews; an Opening Night Gala with Yo-Yo Ma featuring an installation by video artist and director Netia Jones; world premieres including Frank Zappa's 200 Motels; public forums with Frank Gehry and other commemorations.

"Walt Disney Concert Hall is the product of intense creative collaboration between artists, architect, acoustician, and musicians, the efforts of which have created a dynamic new vision - not just architecturally, but artistically as well," says Deborah Borda, President and CEO, Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. "Walt Disney Concert Hall represents the defining qualities of the LA Phil - innovation and excellence. This magnificent and iconic building continues to inspire us to re-imagine who we could be as both an orchestra and an organization - to push artistic boundaries, provide new channels of access, and redefine the role of today's orchestra."

Aptly called insideOUT, this celebration reflects architect Frank Gehry's vision for Walt Disney Concert Hall - literally from the inside out - creating a new kind of concert hall, and "living room for the city."

"One of the primary considerations when conceiving the design for Walt Disney Concert Hall was to preserve the iconic importance of the LA Phil, but break down the often imposing scale of a traditional concert hall," says architect Frank Gehry. "Walt Disney Concert Hall is not just a building for music, but a building for the people. The exterior reflects the interior's functional organization, which is intimate, welcoming, and seamlessly integrates the guest experience with both natural and manmade elements. From the inside out, the building was designed to respond to its surrounding, and serve as a gathering place."

insideOUT 10th ANNIVERSARY FREE COMMUNITY CONCERTS

In October 2003, the LA Phil celebrated the opening of its new home, Walt Disney Concert Hall, with a series of free preview concerts that served more than 18,000 Angelenos, including 3,000 school children from over 65 schools throughout Los Angeles County. Since then, the LA Phil continues to serve the next generation of concertgoers and the greater Los Angeles community, resulting in the growth of unprecedented music education opportunities for young students and aspiring musicians, includingYouth Orchestra LA (YOLA). YOLA - inspired by Music Director Gustavo Dudamel's artistic vision and experience in Venezuela's El Sistema - works with community partners to provide free instruments and high quality music instruction to over 600 students in Los Angeles communities that would not otherwise have access. The LA Phil's YOLA initiative is operated in partnership with Harmony Project, Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) and the EXPO Center, a City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks facility, and L.A. County High School for the Arts.

For the first time in its six-year history, Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA) students will perform alongside the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Gustavo Dudamel at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Angelenos from throughout the county will be able to enjoy the concert in a very special LA Phil simulcast on a giant screen in Grand Park. This unique concert also features a solo performance by legendary pianist and LA Phil Creative Chair for Jazz, Herbie Hancock.

In addition to the unprecedented YOLA Side-by-Side concert, the LA Phil will perform three free community concerts, featuring Julie Andrews narrating Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. Local ensembles Las Cafeteras and The Jazz Angels will also perform in these special free events celebrating music and community.
