Hershey Area Playhouse will play host to talented musicians from the Milton Hershey School and Hershey High School, as part of the second annual Sweet Sounds concert tonight, Nov. 7, beginning at 7 p.m.

The evening will open with the Milton Hershey School (MHS) Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Randal Rhodes. The MHS Guitar Ensemble is a select group of Senior Division students who perform throughout the year for school and community events. These instrumental and vocal performers have a wide and varied repertoire that includes classic rock, pop, and original music.

A select group of Hershey High School (HHS) String Orchestra members, comprised of juniors and seniors, will follow the MHS Guitar Ensemble, performing a variety of selections under the direction of Greg Woodbridge.

MHS' New Horizons vocal group, comprised of students in grades 9-12, will perform next, offering Broadway and popular tunes. Featuring four-part harmonies, New Horizons has been in existence since 1980, and is the premier vocal group at MHS. As an extra-curricular activity, the students practice once a week for two hours and are under the direction of Cristal Sheaffer, and accompanied by Haw-Ru Lin.

New Horizons has performed many functions locally and for prominent public figures, such as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, and even as background vocalists for tenor Josh Groban. The group performs approximately 25 times per year, and this year's show them features "everything sunshine."

The Sweet Sounds concert will culminate with all three groups performing several numbers together. Last year was the first time in 15 years that the schools actually performed in concert together, and the Playhouse is proud to offer them a stage to share again this year.

The event will be held at the Playhouse, located at the corner of Sand Hill Road and Cherry Drive, Hershey. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets are available via the Playhouse's website, www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com or by calling the Playhouse's box office at 717-533-8525.

Hershey Area Playhouse is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing residents of the community with an opportunity to participate in the creation and production of a theatrical experience. Since its inception in 1999, Hershey Area Playhouse has staged over 60 productions at numerous venues around the Hershey area. In April 2007, the Playhouse opened its new permanent home, Hershey Area Playhouse at Country Meadows.
