The Harris Theater for Music and Dance announced today a five-year creative partnership with internationally renowned Kronos Quartet and the Kronos Performing Arts Organization. This partnership, part of Kronos Quartet's Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire, includes the commissioning of 50 new works, 10 per year over five years. The Theater has named the Music Institute of Chicago as the primary education partner for this project. Fifty for the Future forms a central component of Carnegie Hall's 125th Anniversary Season, to be celebrated with the creation of 125 new works.

Music commissioned as part of Fifty for the Future - to be performed at Carnegie Hall and other venues around the world − will be devoted to the most contemporary approaches to the string quartet, and designed for training students and emerging professionals. Kronos will premiere each work and create companion materials including recordings, videos, performance notes and composer materials that will be distributed online free of charge.

Fifty for the Future will provide opportunities for Music Institute of Chicago Academy students to work with the Kronos Quartet in master classes and artist talks to explore the necessary technical, aesthetic and ethical qualities of the 21st century musician.

"At the Music Institute of Chicago, we are developing the musicians and audiences for the 21st century. Fifty for the Future is an invaluable opportunity for our students to work with the most innovative musicians and composers in the world. We are thrilled and honored to be a part of it," said Mark George, President and CEO of the Music Institute of Chicago.

"This collaboration is an important step in developing the Harris Theater's reputation for having a world wide influence in creating new works of classical music. We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Music Institute of Chicago and to provide exceptional pre?professional experiences for Chicago's gifted young artists," said Michael Tiknis, President and Managing Director of The Harris Theater.

This partnership, beginning in the theater's 2015?2016 season, is made possible by the Laura and Ricardo Rosenkranz Artistic Innovation Fund through the Imagine Campaign. The Kronos Quartet will next appear at the Harris Theater on March 17 with Laurie Anderson in Landfall, a collection of works composed on hyperviolin and adapted to the string quartet, inspired by the events of Hurricane Sandy.

Tickets for Landfall are $10-$65, now available at HarrisTheaterChicago.org or by calling the Harris Theater Box Office at 312.334.7777.
