Schermerhorn Symphony Center announces the opening of Cherry Street {eatery & sweetery} in the building's West Lobby. Chef and owner Meg Giuffrida will be providing delicious scones, sandwiches, soups and desserts for breakfast and lunch 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on weekdays. She will also serve sandwiches, desserts and coffee on concert nights.

Best known to local diners as the owner and chef of the beloved Red Wagon Cafe, Giuffrida is committed to serving healthy meals, locally sourced and made-from-scratch - grab-and-go "good food" at a competitive price point. Her clients have included Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, CMT, Frist Center for the Visual Arts, and the office of the Mayor. During its popular run in East Nashville, Red Wagon garnered considerable critical acclaim, having been voted "Best Brunch" and "Best Caterer" several times in the Nashville Scene's Best of Nashville Awards.

With the incredible growth in the SoBro district, Cherry Street {eatery and sweeter} will be a welcome addition for downtown workers, Schermerhorn patrons and the many out-of-town visitors who have made Nashville a travel destination. The café takes its moniker from the original name for Nashville's Fourth Avenue, which was until the early 20th century known as Cherry Street.

As part of Giuffrida's commitment to supporting social enterprise, Cherry Street {eatery and sweetery} will be a satellite employment location for some of the women who have gone through the job training program at Thistle Farms. In addition, a portion of sales at the Schermerhorn will be donated to Thistle Farms. "People want to spend their money doing good," says Giuffrida. "With Cherry Street {eatery and sweetery} as the bridge between Thistle Farms and the Nashville Symphony, patrons can feel good about supporting two local non-profits."

Jonathan Norris, VP of Revenue for the Nashville Symphony, says, "Meg's great reputation precedes her, and having sampled her food, I am positive that Cherry Street {eatery and sweetery} will provide the highest level of quality and service that our patrons have come to expect here at the Schermerhorn."

The café will launch with a soft opening tonight, September 5, for the opening concert of the Nashville Symphony's 2013/14 season, and will open for breakfast and lunch the following day, Friday, September 6.
