Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir (Good Noise) presents RISE UP SINGING! A Youth Choir Extravaganza, on Saturday, May 30 at 7:30pm in the Fraserview MB Church. The inaugural concert event will launch the 'Good Noise VIP Young Artist Program' - an initiative to foster music education and gospel music appreciation throughout the Lower Mainland. For this uplifting evening of gospel, Good Noise will perform alongside three award-winning youth choirs, Burnaby Central Chamber "A" Choir, North Surrey Polaris Chamber Choir, and Vancouver Youth Choir.

"As a former high school choral instructor, I've witnessed how the tremendous benefits of singing in choir - including improved self-confidence and discipline, coupled with greater focus and drive - can positively impact youth development," says Gail Suderman, Artistic Director, Good Noise. "The goal of the VIP Young Artist Program is to validate, promote and create opportunities for young people in the local community to share their talent and achieve new skills and abilities, while also learning about gospel music and its rich musical history."

The exceptional guest choirs, with members aged 13 to 23, each possess maturity of sound, disciplined professionalism, and stellar stage presence, comparable to many lauded adult choirs, and will perform a mixed repertoire alongside Good Noise centered on the theme of "life's journey." Appealing to all generations, featured songs will include contemporary adaptations of gospel favourites such as Kum Ba Ya and This Little Light of Mine, R&B/Hip-Hop energized songs such as Kirk Franklin's I Smile and arrangements of works by the Doobie Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel.

A growing number of gospel choirs continue to appear throughout North America, with many colleges and university music ensembles expanding their offerings to gospel, however there are few examples of gospel music programs in Western Canada.

The 'Good Noise VIP Young Artist Program' will fill this void with four distinct projects: performance opportunities for youth choirs; gospel music and solo voice workshops; entrance scholarships for voice majors at colleges and universities and ultimately, the establishment of the first community youth gospel choir in Western Canada. Details of the program will be announced officially at the May 30 concert.
