Decorated helicopter pilot and Vietnam War veteran author Robert F. Hartley memorializes his time in combat in his new book, "Gunship Pilot: An Attack Helicopter Warrior Remembers Vietnam" (published by LifeRich Publishing).

Hartley shares gripping stories from his two combat tours of duty in Vietnam where he attempted to fulfill missions of killing the enemy and saving American lives. He shows how he learned to rely on his superior training and equipment to fulfill his duty of protecting American warriors on the ground under very difficult circumstances.

"Helicopter pilots of the Vietnam War, as well as those of today's conflicts, were and are willing to do just about anything to assist and protect our fellow soldiers on the ground below us," Hartley says.

Taking readers from the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone in the north to the Mekong Delta in southwestern Vietnam, Hartley compellingly details missions soaring high above rice paddies and jungles. His bird's-eye-view of the military action glimpses into the everyday lives of soldiers in a war zone from the perspective of a real attack helicopter pilot.
