The concept of existence or philosophy as it is formally known has long been in the collective minds of humanity throughout the ages. And throughout the centuries, great minds such as Confucius, Socrates and Rene Descartes have contributed much to the collective human wisdom. In the "Origin of the Centered Self?" author Glenda Jackson wishes to contribute her own thoughts and ideas in the age old search for the truth.

"Origin of the Centered Self?" is Jackson's enlightening book that endeavors to explain how humans can best function as complex whole material, historical and sociocultural beings. It shows readers how humans can best function when they think and act responsibly, autonomously, relationally and selflessly by understanding that one's choices have consequences. It also shows how one's ability to make choices that have consequences can only operate because of the existence of the deeper principle of cause/effect in the universe. It states that the Bible, when read as a description of a complex whole material, historical and sociocultural nature, is an explanation of what humanity is intended to be, what went wrong, and the way out of the exponential negative spiral that comes with the belief that one's actions have no consequences.

This eye-opening read is highly relevant to today's society as it provides a reasonable explanation of why things function the way they do and what humanity as a whole can do about those things in society so often neglected and ignored. Some relevant topics this book contributes to include: operation of one's will or agency, nature of equality, understanding democracy, individualism, fundamentalism, suffering, and human identity. "Origin of the Centered Self" is without a doubt an enlightening and worthwhile read.

About the Author
Glenda Jackson's interest in exploring the concept of the centered self began while working on a doctoral thesis in education. Early in her study program she was challenged to articulate her world view - one she recognized needed to span the philosophies and theories encountered in her discipline and research while also connecting with her Christian heritage. This book is the product of her journey to articulate a connected world view and the resulting unexpected discovery of the centered self.
