John Pert Releases A WEALDEN ROUND ROBIN

The County of Kent, situated in the south-east corner of England, is famous for the "white cliffs of Dover", and in its centre, there is an area known as The Weald, often referred to as "the garden of England". It is in this fascinating English village where the enthralling tale on the lives of the villagers unravels in author John Pert's new publication, A Wealden Round Robin.

The story starts before the 2nd World War, where the people live in simplicity and peace, thriving in the joyful and uncomplicated life on the farms. It doesn't mean that the atmosphere there is completely uneventful though, because the events each day are pretty interesting. There is the celebrated harvest time in early October, in which the corn had been harvested, the hops had been picked, and many of the orchards had been cleared. People go to the beautifully decorated church, each in varying styles.

There are the Hargreaves and the Rowlands, the largest landowners, followed by the Wheatleys and the Thompsons. The Hargreaves has a son, Colin, whom Mrs. Thompson eyes as the perfect candidate for a husband for her 16-year-old daughter, Penny. Penny, however, has set her sights on Peter Fielding whose family works on the Hargreaves' farm, a brilliant boy of 17 who is quite the intellectual, being placed in the 'A' stream at school. There is also George Knight, who has a long-time romance with Jane Bowden.

Along the way, one would cheer for the success of Peter as he made it to Cambridge for a science degree, but one's heart will bleed a little as he and Penny lost touch, with the latter eventually marrying Colin Hargreaves. George and Jane have their ups and downs as well that thankfully leads them to the altar. For a while, it seems that everything is well. Then WW II happened, disappointments and tragedies untangles, bringing the characters into a roller-coaster ride before delivering them into a much awaited conclusion.

A Wealden Round Robin is woven with intricate plot that has many twists and turns, spilling the drama, romance, successes, failures, disappointments and tragedies from the lives of Peter, Penny, Colin, George, Jane and the rest of the residents in the Weald of Kent.

About the Author

Likes classical music, and has written poetry and a children's book. Was educated at The Judd School, a leading grammar school in Kent, and at The London School of Economics. Did National Service in the army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the RASC. At school throughout the period covered in the novel - from pre 2nd World War until the end in 1945. Now over 80 years of age, he recalls vividly the aerial Battle of Britain, and other events during the course of the war, some of which are mentioned as background to the fiction of the novel, and hopes it gives it added poignancy.
