FRANKLIN, Tenn., Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Indie writing organization Second Chance Publishing announces the release of Greg Schaffer's new novel, Temptations of the Innocent, the prequel to the acclaimed novel Forgiveness.

Seminarian and World War II veteran Albert Whelan, deeply devoted to his primary calling to help others, is naively unaware of his status as a prime target for indoctrination as part of a Soviet plot to infiltrate the Roman Catholic Church from within. However, the agent posing as a priest leading the subversion effort in New York has a deeper, more sinister motive for maintaining authority over Albert. Consumed with a desire for revenge, he believes Albert may be "The One" bent on destroying him, threatening his eternal existence.

Spanning four decades in the middle of twentieth century New York, this upmarket fantasy, with characters transcending time and the material world, explores the battle of good versus evil on several levels, slowly revealing an underlying story arc exploring the possibilities of an existence and a purpose beyond life and death. "With its extended timeline, I wanted to include elements correlating with actual events, such as dovetailing President Ronald Reagan's travel schedule in the 1980s with a significant character's development," Schaffer explained. "This allows for connecting what we know with the fantasy of the unknown."

The positive reader feedback for his debut novel Forgiveness prompted Schaffer to expand that tale to a trilogy. "There was a greater story to be told," he said. "While Forgiveness touched on second chances, Temptations of the Innocent explores that theme from the beginning of life itself." He expects to release the final element of the trilogy and the sequel to Forgiveness, with a current working title of Redemption, in 2018.
