Even though the New York Times reported last year that divorce rates are decreasing, there is no denying that parents can always use more resources to help their kids during that difficult transition period.

Author Donya Fiorentino went through the struggles of divorce twice when separating from her celebrity husbands, David Fincher and Gary Oldman. When she began looking for help for her kids she realized she was left with minimal resources and that more than anything an open dialogue was needed.

"Most children are unsure how to process their parents splitting, so it is essential to talk to them about every aspect of it," Fiorentino said. "I wrote my new book to be used as a tool for parents and children to get those conversations going and bring them comfort."

Fiorentino's new book, "Fletcher: Happy Kid of Divorced Parents," addresses many of the concerns children have during divorce: blaming themselves, parents speaking negatively about one another, holidays, time split between both parents and much more.

The negative affects of divorce on young children have been well documented by scientific communities over the years, but Fiorentino hopes this book can help parents create a safe place that will allow children to avoid those pitfalls.

Donya Fiorentino is a photographer, speaker and former actress and model. She has a philanthropic heart that has driven her to volunteer much of her time with The Arthritis Foundation and Camp Esperanza - a camp for children with Arthritis. Fiorentino currently resides in Miami to help take care of her parents.
